The Auburn 851 supercharged speedster was designed and developed by famous Gordon Buering.
Each car was fully tested and guaranteed to exceed 100 m.p.h with the straight 8 Lycoming 279.2 cubic inch (4.5 litres) supercharged engine. The American driver, Ab Jenkins, in fact drove one at an average of 103 m.p.h for twenty-seven hours.
This model replica was modelled on the vehicle currently residing at the Beaulieu Motor Car Museum in Hampshire, England.

The Auburn Speedster was an American automobile manufactured by the Auburn Automobile Company of Auburn, Indiana. Auburn was an American automobile brand from 1900 to 1937 . In 1925 the company was taken over by Erret Cord who incorporated it a few years later into his Cord Corporation . In 1937 that company went under financially in the Great Depression , and that also meant the end for Auburn.

The (Y19-1) 1936 Auburn Speedster 851 was introduced in 1979.

Variations/Rarities: It's first colour scheme was a light beige body with a light brown bonnet, boot and door tops and a dark brown baseplate and wings.
Soon the main body colour was changed to a darker beige.
The next recolour was to a light cream body with glossy black baseplate and wings.
This was followed by an all white body and baseplate with blue bonnet sides and doors.
The final version (1990) was made in Macau and once again it was coloured dark tan all over with cream doors and body sides.
There are no rare variations although models with odd coloured plastic interiors have been found which are assumed to be colour trials.

*1990 release:
Livery: (Tampo) - 'SUPER-CHARGED' in silver on black panel, above the exhaust manifold and offside grille.
Number plates: Lemon yellow SA29582 on pale blue lemon edged plate (one line for front plate and two for the rear plate)
Radiator: On the 1990 release the black radiator grille is faced with a chrome chevron bar. All other grilles are chrome.

In 1999 the Auburn 851 Supercharged Speedster was also released in white with red striping as part of the Matchbox Exclusives Edition 2000 Dinky range (DYM38179).
